Why we built I Wrote That Book

Kids make books all the time, out of folded paper, staples and tape. We wanted a way to print the ones they make, without changing a single page.

Ask a six-year-old about the book they’re writing and you’ll hear the whole plot, usually with a dinosaur in it. The pages end up on the fridge, then in a drawer, then gone. We built I Wrote That Book so those stories can become something a child can hold: a real hardcover, with their drawings inside and their name on the cover.

What we care about

  • It stays their book. Every page inside is their own drawing, and their words are printed the way they wrote them. AI helps only when a child asks for ideas, and they decide what to keep.
  • Grown-ups stay in charge. The account, the consent and the order belong to a parent or guardian. We talk to grown-ups, never to kids, in our ads, emails and on this site.
  • Privacy is the default. First names only, no ads, no tracking, private books, and a real person checking every book before it prints. How we protect kids’ privacy
  • Every book gives back. 10% of our profit from every book goes to a children’s literacy charity. How our giving works

For classrooms too

Teachers already run young authors units. We want every student to come out of one with their own book, without the teacher handling any student data. How it works for classrooms
